ABOUT THE AUTHORS |
|
Cold Dark Water was written by John and Muriel Healy. It is a true “Labor of Love”. ________________________________________________________________________________ We keep our boat, the “Never II Nauti”, at the Witch Cove Marina in historic Portsmouth, New Hampshire. We spend a lot of time cruising the Piscataqua River and the Isles of Shoals, just off shore. Our five year old grand daughter, Maddison, refers to the boat as “The Nauti Boat”. The setting for the book in this beautiful and historic area. John M. Healy is a retired State Police Lieutenant and currently is a private investigator. He and his wife Muriel own and operate Litigation Intelligence Services, LLC in Warner, NH. They live in Warner with daughter Melissa, son Mike and granddaughter Maddison. They recently celebrated their 31st Wedding Anniversary! _________________________________________________________________________________ Writing a book is something I always wanted to do. I write a lot of articles on investigations, but had never delved into fiction. I took a course in Creative Writing and it was great, so I began reading books on the craft of writing. One day I sat down at my computer and began to write Border Wars. Muriel though the title was all wrong and would not attract female readers. She suggested Cold Dark Water and that became the title. Most books are bought by female readers. I guess we guys don’t read much. I worked daily on the book, sending portions of each chapter to my wife for editing and suggestions. Once the book was finished I had several friends critique it and did several rewrites. This culminated with a visit to the Tony Hillerman Writers Conference in New Mexico in 2006. I am returning there in November 2007. My favorite authors are Tony Hillerman, Archer Mayor, creator of the Joe Gunther Series, Lee Child and his series about Jack Reacher, Jeremiah Healy (no relation) and his John Francis Cuddy series and Clive Cussler. I may not be at their level, but I will try. A big thank you to Archer Mayor, a true gentlemen, whom I have met on many occasions. It is listening to him speak about the craft that made me get going. Also a HUGE thank you to Jeremiah Healy who took the time to read the first thirty pages of my book, make suggestions for improvement, which were incorporated into the whole book.
Excellent authors and true gentlemen.
